Our Founder's Story

Crisis can make or break you. At age 23, I (David) found myself on the precipice of launching my fully independent adult life. The plan was to take my Bachelor's of Business Administration degree and take a job in OKC selling medical office software to support me and my new bride. At age 52, my dad had no succession plan or inkling that a cancer diagnosis would completely derail his entrepreneurial journey of the last 23 years and a 2nd generation automotive distribution business that he and his dad had build together. The family philosophy was each Cranfill had to go earn their right to join the family business by bringing something new to the table. Not much a 23 year old, just graduated college, could offer other than to step up and take the reigns of the family business when the family needed him most.

Fast forward 30 years, and after growing the family business to a 3 million, multi-location operation, I struggle to feel I missed out on a "normal career". I've always been grateful for the incredible opportunity I had to jump into the deep end of entrepreneurship. However, I also felt like much of my journey hadn't been of my choosing. So, I did a stupid (or courageous) thing and I quit. There's more to it than that, but the short of it is I shut the doors to the family business 2016 and after a short stint in franchise brokerage, Xerox sales and as a CFO, Covid presented me with a new entrepreneurial chapter by launching Small Business Outfitters in 2020.

My calling with SBO, is simply to help accelerate other entrepreneurs along their journey to avoid common pitfalls and clarity that I wish I had on my journey and I gained from the University of Hard Knocks.
